STAY AT HOME IF YOU CAN

If you are at home, your dog or cat will likely be less fearful and stay calm, especially if it is a new pet or young dog or cat.

EXERCISE YOUR DOG EARLY

If your dog has less energy, he’ll be less prone to panic during the night.  Take your dog to the toilet early or go outside with your dog to keep him reassured.

KEEP THEM INDOORS

Remember to close windows and cat flaps.  If your cat is use to going outside you could provide them with a litter tray.  Draw the curtains, keeping everything closed this will muffle noise and stop them from seeing flashing lights that might scare them further.

STAY CALM

Be sure to stay calm around your animals. if they become fearful or stressed reassuring them can reinforce their fear.

GIVE A TREAT

Give your dog or cat a new toy or treat to keep them distracted and occupied.

HAVE A SAFE HAVEN

Create a den, place it in the centre of the house away from windows and walls and put a comfy bed inside or a blanket in their favourite spot to help them feel snug and secure.

If your pet hides elsewhere don’t attempt to pull him out, this might stress your pet further.

 IDENTIFICATION

Make sure you pet is microchipped and has tags on with all your details.  Incase your pet escapes or slips the lead and runs off scared.

SPEAK TO YOUR VET

If your pet is likely to be extremely panicky or irritable your Vet can offer advice or herbal remedies or medicines.
